Job Description

 

The prep cooks will be working under the command of a senior kitchen member and they are responsible for assisting in the preparation of meals. They will be working in a stressful environment and should be prepared to face complaints from both the customers and senior chefs. Mistakes wll be inevitable in this entry-level position and the senior chefs will be giving them plenty of constructive criticism. Instead of treating these as setbacks, prep cooks should accept the feedback and regard those mistakes as invaluable learning experiences for them to improve and perform better in future.

 

Duties

 

  • Assist in the preparation of meals, which includes but are not limited to tasks such as chopping vegetables, making salads and putting together entrees

  • Ensure all food is prepared on time and according to the chef’s standards

  • Ensure leftover food is stored properly

  • Perform kitchen maintenance such as keeping the area clean, clearing the trash bin, washing dishes and testing food temperature at specified intervals

  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude

  • Keep the prep area clean and organized at all times

  • Have good time management

  • Practice effective communication with chef and all management staff

  • Knowledgeable about kitchen equipment

  • Be proactive
